Keep Your Moodle Course Lean
Keeping your Moodle course from getting too large can make it easier to manage, back up, reuse, and carry forward from semester to semester.
A few simple habits can help:
- use Panopto for video rather than uploading video files directly to Moodle
- link to large files in Google Drive when appropriate
- and check file sizes before uploading, large PowerPoints and image-heavy PDFs can often be compressed without sacrificing quality.
It’s also worth doing a little cleanup when reusing a course. Remove outdated resources, duplicate materials, and files you no longer need rather than carrying everything forward each semester. Being intentional about what lives directly in Moodle helps keep your course manageable and makes future course reuse and backups easier.
